About

Our Ethos

Our mission is to create homes of the highest quality for our customers, to exceed their expectations regarding service and to deliver top levels of performance for our shareholders. We are in an excellent position to maintain growth, maximise returns and minimise exposure to risk. We continue to invest in strategic land with a view to the long-term, whilst benefitting from earlier investments with our current developments.

We take care to design our product and site layout to meet the needs of local people, and recognise that consideration of the environment is of ever increasing importance.

Our uncompromising commitment to quality extends to the first class service we offer customers after they have moved in.  We are proud of our excellent ratings in national customer satisfaction surveys which place us amongst the top echelon in the house building industry.

Our History

Croudace was founded in 1946 by Jack Brotherton-Ratcliffe: following a distinguished wartime career he saw an opening to renovate and build new council and private housing during the post-war building boom. He acquired the first sites for new private homes in Surrey to meet the rising shortage of housing stock, and this locality remained the core area of operation for the Company for many years. Opportunities for private residential developers increased in the 1980s when housing demand was no longer satisfied by public development and both earnings and the availability of credit were growing, and Croudace responded by significantly increasing its private house-building programme and widening its spread of operations to cover the whole of the south east of England. The Company grew from strength to strength and despite periods of economic recession which saw many competitors fail, Jack’s firm control, prudence and lucid appreciation of the market enabled him to sustain Croudace’s success.

Jack's eldest son, Tony, took over as Chairman in 2001 and he has overseen the continuing success of the Group ever since. The Croudace Homes Group remains wholly owned by the Brotherton-Ratcliffe family to this day; its shareholders being the second and third generations of the original founder.

Corporate Social Responsibility

The Croudace Home Group is committed to the principles of corporate social responsibility.

  • We work towards recognised good practice in sustainability;
  • We consider the social and environmental effects of the developments we design and build, balanced against the need to produce more homes;
  • We invest in the communities we develop to contribute to local needs;
  • We provide excellent customer care;
  • We provide a safe and healthy working environment for our staff;
  • We promote the skills of our workforce.

We take our responsibility towards the immediate and wider community seriously, incorporating play areas and sports facilities, hosting community fun days and events and raising money for charity - all part of our commitment to ensure our developments are desirable and social places to make a home.

Donating to Charities

As the Croudace Homes Group continues to grow and becomes more successful, we are keen to share our good fortune and give something back to the community. The Board makes donations to appeals for emergency aid for the relief of human suffering as and when required, but as a general rule recipients of donations are primarily selected from two main criteria:

  • Priority is given to applications from members of staff in their individual or group efforts to raise money for good causes close to their hearts, often for very personal reasons;
  • As house-building is our core activity, we support charities that assist people in need of shelter or housing, including disasters resulting in homelessness.

Croudace is delighted to have formed partnerships with ShelterBox and Step by Step.

See below how both organisations help to change lives.
