Centrally located at the heart of the popular housing development, the contemporary £2m facility comprises a main double height sports hall, multi-function room, youth room, consulting room, cafe area, F.A. standard football pitches, changing rooms and a purpose built creche.

LTR: Andy Yallop (Chairman of Croudace Homes), Cllr David Leeks (Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane) and David Leivesley (Chairman, Sherfield Park Community Association).

Leading the speeches, Chairman of Croudace Homes, Andy Yallop, said "As the developers of Sherfield Park, the centre is what we wanted to build, not what we were obliged to as part of our planning agreement, and the final result is a significant enhancement in size, amenity and design to the original brief. I wish to pay tribute to the excellent co-operation between Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, the Sherfield Park Community Association and ourselves, enabling us to deliver an iconic building of which the residents can be proud as the focal point for social, recreational and educational activities within the development."

Andy handed over a cheque for £10,000 as an extra contribution to David Leivesley, Chairman of the Sherfield Park Community Association, which has now assumed responsibility for the running of the centre. David thanked all those responsible for bringing the centre to fruition before the building was officially declared open by The Worshipful the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Cllr David Leeks, who cut the ribbon to allow the residents into the building. A few sharp showers did little to dampen the celebrations, and the afternoon of hospitality included a BBQ, steel band, children s entertainment, a huge cake, prize draws, displays and stalls.
